Have You Heard About Pilates?
Over 90% of people experience back pain at some point in their lives.
Back pain has been shown to stop your core muscles (the muscles which help support your spine), from working properly.
Pilates is a form of exercise which combines using your core muscles, breathing and gentle movements and is an excellent way of strengthening your core muscles and helping to reduce back pain.
If you suffer back pain we highly recommend you book into see a Leading Edge Physiotherapist for an assessment and advice on how Pilates may help you.
WHAT CAN PILATES HELP WITH?
Pilates can help to:
- Reduce spinal stiffness
- Improve flexibility
- Strengthen your pelvic floor muscles (muscles which help to maintain continence)
- Enhance sporting performance
- Prevent back pain
- Excellent for antenatal women or those looking for a gentle low impact form of exercise.
Pilates can be performed on the floor (mat work), or on specialised equipment such as the reformer (pictured). It can be done on an individual basis with a physiotherapist (one on one) or in a group.
At Leading Edge Physiotherapy we offer “one on one” Pilates, Mat work and Equipment Classes.
